A Limited Edition book sculpture by the renowned artist, writer and film director, Miranda July. At the very moment she realised that the covid emergency was taking grip of the globe, Miranda July received an unsolicited phone call offering ‘services’.

“Normally I would have hung up; I’m still surprised I didn’t. I suppose when your world has just been blasted open you are distraught, yes, but also: open. I stepped outside and began answering the caller’s questions. It became obvious that this offer was directed towards a very specific niche of hungry, unaffiliated people: self-published authors. Through some error I had ended up on this list.”

Over the course of the first six months of the pandemic, July communicated extensively with the caller, Richie Jay Benedicto, a trans woman in the Philippines. The resulting intimate exchange of ideas and images has been designed by July in to a book sculpture. The hand-made leporello (concertina) unfolds to more than 7 metres (23 feet) wide and includes 4 museum grade inkjet prints. Consisting in the following elements: a hand-made leporello bound (concertina) hardback book comprising 14 pages (each 516mm wide x 328 high); four museum grade inkjet prints (each signed by MJ, numbered 1/25 to 25/25); housed in a handmade slipcase.

Each volume numbered 1/25 - 25/25 and signed by Miranda July and Richie Jay Benedicto.
